Create a Drupal category

Categories are a way in which you can group your content into natural sections.

This will help your website visitors find the information that they’re looking for and will keep your site organised even when it is full of content. Try and plan the categories that you’ll need (and the sub categories that will be in each one) but here’s how to create a category so that you can get started right now.

  1. Log into your admin account.
  2. Click create content in the left menu.
  3. Click on Parent Menu Item
  4. Content Title – Enter the name for the category (what will appear in the menus).
  5. Image for top of screen (optional) – Choose a thin image for the top of the category screen.
  6. Cat_top_text for top left of screen – Enter a brief description of the category.
  7. Image for this category(optional) – Upload an image to be displayed on the category page.
  8. Open up menu settings and assign it to a menu. This will probably be the left menu as you want to keep the top or primary menu for the key items.
  9. Give it a title and weighting as before. If you ever delete a category then note that it won’t delete the items assigned to the category.
